She just finished singing as Frasquita in Carmen at Opera Pacific March 2007 and
received  review "Joohee Choi charming as Frasquita. As she has fortunes read in Act
III, her fortunes of rich and gallant men were the perfect foil for Carmen and her
prophecy of death in the cards."

She was acclaimed as Violetta in La Traviata in December 2006, and she was dubbed
as
“... She reigned supreme in Acts II and III. Her "Non più esiste" (The past no longer
exists; my love for Alfred has cancelled it), which is a crucial line, was perfect, with
both the accelerando and the ritardando appearing naturally, as if spoken. ..She is
helped by her looks, Choi also happens to be an excellent actress. She was clearly a

She also appeared in Philip Glass’s “ Les enfant terrible” at Oakland Opera( October
and December 2006) ( ...as heroine, Elizabeth, her performance was riveting”by SFCV)
Her favorite Pamina was done in Summer Opera in Washington D.C. ( July 2006) “..
Joohee Choi, with her big, eagerly expressive eyes and sweetly lyrical soprano voice,
made a fetching Pamina.” Washington post 2006. Performed as a soloist with the
Angeles Choral concert in 2006. Soprano Joohee Choi has served two seasons with the
Los Angeles Opera as Resident Artist. She made her LA Opera company debut in 2004
as the Keeper of the Gates of the Temple in Strauss' Die Frau Ohne Schatten ("Joohee
Choi shines..." Los Angeles Times) and Barbarina in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. Her
appearances with Los Angeles Opera for the 2004-2005 season include Mrs.
Anderssen in A Little Night Music, Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, the Priestess in Aida,
Frasquita in Carmen, Noble Orphan and Sophie (cover) in Der Rosenkavalier, Alice
(cover) in Falstaff, and Juliette (cover) in Romeo et Juliette. She also performed as
Mimi in La boheme for the LA Opera’s two student matinees.


While she was in Juilliard School, she has performed with Opera Music Theater
International (Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Musetta in La bohème), Opera at Florham
(Pamina in Die Zauberflöte), Chautauqua Opera (Micaela in Carmen). She has been
recognized as the New Jersey district winner of the Metropolitan Opera National
Council Auditions, the first place winner of the Loren Zachery Society National Vocal
Competition in Los Angeles and third place winner of the Licia Albanese- Puccini
Foundation International Competition in New York City.

Ms. Choi also has a rich musical theater experience. She was nominated for a Tony
Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and was the winner of the Theater
World Award for Best Debut Actress for her debut performance of Tuptim in
Broadway's award-winning revival of The King and I. Her musical theater experience
also includes leading roles for West Side Story, Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar in
Seoul, Korea.

She graduated from Soul National University in Music and has earned a Master of
Music at the Juilliard School.
